While a program providing an $8,000 credit for first-time homebuyers in the U.S. is due to end in November, reports from Capitol Hill indicate that the opportunity may be extended.

HousingWire is reporting that, according to its sources, Senate Democrats are working on extending the credit into April 2010. Bloomberg adds that a credit of $6,500 for some people already owning homes that buy new one may be part of that extension package.

According to Reuters, Moody's Economy.com estimates that the credit will have spurred 400,000 additional home sales through the program's end.
