2006 Mexico Elections
A general election is to be held in Mexco on Sunday, July 2, 2006. Voters will go the polls to elect, on the federal level:

Eight political parties will participate in the 2006 presidential election.

Competition between the three major parties is expected to be fierce, with the National Action Party (PAN) eager to hold on to the presidency for a second period, the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) equally keen to regain the office it lost in the 2000 election for the first time in 71 years, and the Party of the Democratic Revolution believing itself with a good chance to win after disappointments in the two previous elections and suspected massive fraud in 1988.

The Labour Party (PT) will go in coallition with the PRD for the presidency. It is not yet known whether the other two smaller parties the Green Ecological Party of Mexico (PVEM) and Convergencia that enjoy congressional representation) and the two new parties, New Alliance and the Social Democratic and Farmer Alternative will ally themselves with the big three or put forward their own candidates.
