Public Attack on Spielberg's Munich Movie |
|
The elimination of terrorism takes time. But we must agree that the WTC and later events have contributed to an escalation of terrorism. Each attack contributes to revenge, even from people far removed from the events. Has President Bush really made us safer, even taking into consideration that there were no additional attacks before he and our government made up tough policies for us to follow?
By Profesor Martin N. Danenberg “El Quijote del GED”
Jules M. Levine cleverly attacks James Pinkerton and Steven Spielberg in New York Newsday over the elimination of terrorism. Mr. Levine’s comments seem to ring true, but Spielberg and Pinkerton know that the elimination of terrorism does not simply occur by “turning the cheek” against Munich terrorists and other terrorists. The elimination of terrorism comes, if it is possible at all, through a peace process that is totally monitored. You can have a peace process, as we had at Camp David under President Jimmy Carter. But was it monitored? Did society, including schools and homes, teach peace? This is probably one of the great failures of American diplomacy. We have to ask ourselves, and ask ourselves quickly, if President Bush has increased the number of terrorists by attacking two nations. He has told you about the terrorists killed and murdered, but what about the growth of terrorists? Where is the table or graph that presents that picture? Why isn’t our government presenting that information to us? The peace process after WW II came about in many ways, including the stationing of troops in Europe that lasted decades. President Bush claims that we will soon put trust in the new Iraqi government and pull the troops out. This theory contradicts past successes in world history in Europe and Japan. Every WW II veteran and post WW II veteran knows this. Mr. Levine is well aware of the great hatred that Arabs have for Israel and their desire to see Jews driven into the sea, but we want to see a turn around in terrorism in Israel. The status quo broke when the WTC was destroyed, and things have certainly escalated because of the election of George Bush. History has shown us that we have been doing things that keep leading to more deaths. And the comments made by Mr. Levine, though accurate, are misleading and this is one of the great things that hurt our democracy. A million people, who support President Bush, could easily be misled by Mr. Levine’s comments and hurt the peace process by organizing more support for our President.
