ALPHONSO BONILLA AND HERMAN MENDOZA HELPING YOUTH

By Profesor Martin Danenberg "El Quijote del GED"

Mothers Against Peer Pressure teamed up with the Steppingstones Ministry and the New York court system to show youth what it is like to end up in court on charges. All the prisoners get for three days consists of a cheese sandwich and a six ounce container of milk. There is no pizza, fries loaded with cheese, no large sodas, and no going back for more. Regular life stands still and is replaced by something so foreign that we hope youth will begin to compute or understand. Judge Karen Smith took time from her work as a judge to come out and speak to the youth at 100 Centre Street.

They tell me that wearing the pants below the hip is fading as a fashion. Youth are finding out more about the Sean Bell Foundation and its commitment to keeping youth away from those court proceedings and the cheese sandwich. I am talking about education and the GED and better food and greater opportunities. We are all doing our part.
