City Councilman Larry Seabrook put together an event honoring heroes in the Bronx and there were several including Bobby Hunter, Bishop Angelo Rosales, Eddie Evans, …I have to tell you that William Bell, the father of Sean Bell, was announced to the large crowd of people and he was soon networking with people. Mark Green running for public advocate spoke with Mr. Bell and I have to tell you that the exchange resulted in positive action. That is the way it is supposed to be when someone is advocating for others. I was proud of Mark Green. I had a great conversation with Councilman Seabrook who was telling me about his teaching days at Marist College, where he helped incarcerated men obtain a college education in the prison system.
Bobby Hunter played for the Harlem Globetrotters for about a decade. He expanded opportunities for others, especially the youth and homeless. He started basketball tournaments for the homeless and ran a city-wide program. Education has been the key to his Empowerment Through Recreation and the GED man (smiling) is his point guard today in helping youth who have dropped out of school.
I was able to tell a few of the honorees about my work in the field of GED. That is how I network with people that I meet. There were others honorees talking about education, including one of the Tuskegee airmen. He told everyone how his family made it through education and faith in God. All of his children and grandchildren are professionals and hold very interesting jobs. These people have mastered the internet, medicine, and other areas of high need to succeed.
