CUOMO, SCHNEIDERMAN, SKELOS
By Profesor Martin Danenberg
As Mayor Bloomberg tells people stop complaining, I write about my complaints. There are hundreds more victims because of the GED crisis than there are victims of the snow removal seen by us all. Bloomberg is known for being a stubborn man and I think the electorate and the general public are not far behind him. These times call for great leadership and not great stubborn people.
I have met Andrew Cuomo in Albany and probably more than once. Eric Schneiderman is my cousin from Sosúa. First of all, he is not my cousin. Second of all, he is not from Sosúa and neither am I, but Eric understands. Dean Skelos and I have probably never met and at the rate we are going it may never happen. The big snow storm has impacted on Mayor Michael Bloomberg and I hope he is right, but let us take a look at what happened. People woke up in their communities and saw great problems. The media reported things and continued to report them. People suffered greatly. The city could not deliver services properly. As far as the GED is concerned, the city has not and cannot deliver services properly. The state is better off than the city, but even there the state cannot deliver services properly. The problem is that Cuomo, Schneiderman, and Skelos have not learned what to do. Bloomberg has not learned and neither have hundreds of elected officials around the state. The GED is a badly managed forty year old problem, complicated by the changes made in 1993 and neglect. Badly needed services have not been provided and lots of people have been killed or gone to prison because of all of this. Everyone is to blame, including one proud father named Mario.
Eric Schneiderman knows about some of my work, but he should have learned about much more of that work. My dedication to his old district and the entire Dominican Republic are well known. Dean Skelos represents a Long Island district and as I drive by into Far Rockaway and see large sections of a neglected community so close to his own district, I have seen Skelos signs. His concern for the rest of the state, even his concern right now, is not going to help Far Rockaway much unless he changes and changes now. And the Bible says, "Love Thy Neighbor." I guess his neighbors are upstate and they support the Republican Bible. Cuomo wants the people to come forward and express their local needs and the people have not really expressed their great need for GED for decades. There should be a GED-Tea Party demanding more from elected officials, but I do not see the Tea Party people or anyone close in philosophy agreeing that dangers imposed by the snow removal are in any way similar to the dangers imposed by keeping minority youth away from education by keeping them on the road to drugs, crime, violence, death, the hospital, and prison. My information was sent to the scheduler during the Cuomo campaign for governor. Tell me this. If I do not contact Cuomo in the next four years, will he contact me? The only one that is really on my radar of the three is my cousin from Sosúa.
