HISPANIC CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE
By Profesor Martin Danenberg “El Quijote del GED”
We must invest time and money in the education of about 14 million Hispanic adults who have no high school diploma. There is a relationship between the poverty that exists in the Hispanic community and the lack of a diploma, high school or GED. Here is the plan of all plans to achieve growth of Hispanic Chambers of Commerce. Hispanic chamber of commerce members serve their communities and seek answers to important questions such a how to we keep our children in school and help more graduate from college. They raise money and help many charitable causes. Each year the leadership assesses the growth of business and members of the HCC. Moderate growth is a thing of the past and the present and greater growth awaits the HCC if it does the right thing.
Hispanic families know the value that business can play in improving their lives and the lives of their children. Often either the husband or the wife holds down a regular job, but without the GED the family does not have those great benefits that go with better jobs. The total improvement of the economic level of those families through the GED and higher education will propel more Hispanic families into business and the HCC.
California’s Hispanic immigrant population is under attack. We hear about it on the news in New York. Roughly half of California’s labor force is considered functionally illiterate. One of the largest Hispanic owned newspaper publisher told me that we (Hispanics) should be paying to help our people with the GED. Actually since HCC’s raise huge sums of money through sponsors, HCC’s can use OPM or other people’s money to help Hispanics with the GED. There are about 14 million Hispanic adults without a high school diploma or GED and they do not have to stay that way. If these people earn a GED at a much faster pace, their economic growth will contribute to the growth of the HCC’s. We can double and triple the GED’s earned by people together.
I received a plaque from the Salvadoran Chamber of Commerce of Long Island for my work. Since then I have helped the governor of New York with information that led to his transfer of $3.9 million to save the GED test which is free in New York State, helping tens of thousands of people. I have provided information to that office which may result in an initiative to put more GED graduates and ESL students into college (an initiative of about $15 million. President Antonio Saca of El Salvador has been on the show of Don Francisco talking about the GED (Spanish) for El Salvador. President Leonel Fernandez allowed me to take his picture holding the GED to promote education among Dominicans. Before receiving that plaque, I helped the office of the governor of Florida with information that resulted in the governor keeping to the same GED standards of 48 other states, resulting in thousands more diplomas in the hands of Floridians each year.
We have to influence governors, mayors, and the next President of the United States together, but we can help Hispanic poor everywhere. We can provide English language instruction to millions of people who have access to a computer or to a friend’s computer. Technology and GED will make the Spanish language speaker fluent in English and a much more productive worker.
Recently we found out in New York City that the number of dropouts increased from 20,000 to 21,000 and the Department of Education cut out most of the GED programs for youth gambling that the youth would stay in school longer. Similar things are going on all over our nation. You would be shocked by the low number of Hispanics who are passing the GED in Spanish and the numbers who pass the GED in English is insufficient.
LET US COME TO THE AID OF THE HISPANIC PEOPLE ACROSS THE UNITED STATES NOW. THERE IS A HUGE MARKET FOR SUCCESS AND THAT MARKET NEEDS MORE EDUCATION AND THE GED WILL PLAY AN ENORMOUS PART IN GUARANTEEING A GREATER NUMBER OF HISPANIC OWNED BUSINESSES IN THE NEXT DECADE. TOGETHER WE CAN PROVIDE GED AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE ACQUISITION TO IMMIGRANTS AND RESIDENTS.
