ICE RAID IN MISSISSIPPI HURTS DEMOCRATS INCLUDING OBAMA
By Profesor Martin Danenberg “El Quijote del GED”
Let me give it to you straight and fast (what I am known for). Hundreds of illegal immigrants were rounded up, including German immigrants (not just Hispanics) by immigration authorities in Jones County Mississippi. Other workers applauded the action, but the following day hundreds of people lined up outside Howard Industries to apply for the vacant jobs. This opposition and mobilization of others to find work may undermine the success of Barack Obama and with over two months left in the Presidential Campaign, you may very well see a drop in the polls for Obama due to this event in Mississippi. Even Latinos, who are also divided, may decide that it has not been fair to local Mississippians (Americans) that illegal immigrants were hired and citizens of the United States were not. In other words, the country will become more divided in the next two months, destroying any chance for the “Hope” campaign of Obama and for immigration reform endorsed by Obama. Even studies that show that Latinos add billions of dollars to local economies by their work and tax paying will be thrown out the window as people realize that the new employees who will be working at Howard Industries will be doing just that.
In addition to this fact, there are those who feel that Barack Obama will not even win New York State. Why? Has he successfully round up the Clinton voters? He has not. The hiring hall incident in Suffolk County, where Hispanic members of the New York State Assembly, tried to force County Executive Steve Levy to open a hiring hall in the county will reverberate across the state. This will impact negatively on Barack Obama. The Democrats have advanced in New York State and the Democratic minority in the senate expects to be the majority in 2009. I met Senator Cesar Trunzo, old and concerned as he is, in the U. S. Post Office for the first time. He is extremely popular in his district among Latinos for his funding of projects, but he is old and he may fall. If he fights back the challenge of a local powerful Democrat, he will advance the cause of Republicans in the state. Young candidates with community support may help the Republicans throughout the state and bring in victories that keep the senate in Republican hands and even give a victory to McCain. So there could be a shifting of votes away from the Democrats that the Obama campaign has not calculated properly. Combined with the news from Jones County, things do not look good for the illegal immigrants and the Democrats.
I want my readers to know that it may not be in the interests of the United States to legalize the undocumented immigrants. Giving those people totally legal status is an ideal to be fought for, but the consequences may have a negative impact on the United States for decades. So the best policy may very well be the one that is in place now.
IF THE LEGALIZATION OF UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS OCCURS AND IT COSTS THE UNITED STATES MUCH MORE MONEY, FOR EXAMPLE, TO PATROL OUR BORDERS EVEN MORE TO KEEP OUT FUTURE IMMIGRANTS, WE SHOULD BARE THIS IN MIND. THE ATTACK ON 9-11 HAS COST US TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND MAYBE BOTH ARE JUST THE WAY WE MUST OPERATE FROM NOW ON TO KEEP OUR NATION SAFE AND ECONOMICALLY STABLE AND SOUND.
