KATHLEEN RICE AND COTA
By Profesor Martin Danenberg "El Quijote del GED"
Kathleen Rice's initiative gains 21 GED diplomas among 600 participants in the COTA initiative. I contacted her office at the beginning of the project to help residents of Hempstead overcome drugs and violence in their neighborhood. COTA is the Council of Thought and Action. I was really never contacted by Kathleen Rice and I hope the same thing does not happen with my outreach to Attorney General elect Eric Schneiderman. The actions of people in government often puzzle me. The Nassau County District Attorney says that "Society can't just incarcerate its way out of a criminal problem." I cannot say if DA Rice put together a great initiative. There were 21 GED diplomas, but the question is how many others need the GED and where are they going and how fast? Were any of the 21 the people causing the original problem in Hempstead?
