"El Quijote del GED"

The GED has needed a federal stimulus, but there has been none. Only 119 people took the GED in Spanish in the entire city of Washington, D.C. last year and 3, 867 took the test in all of Puerto Rico. The need is 93,635 in Washington, D.C. (where only 483 diplomas were earned in 2009) and 1, 001,030 (1,453 earned the GED in 2009 in Puerto Rico). This kind of thing goes on all over the United States in Latino neighborhoods. I started this campaign ten years ago and things have not really improved. Where is the Hispanic unity on this key issue? Three of ten Caucasians have earned a GED and two of ten African-Americans have earned a GED. Hispanics? Read on.

The LISTA or Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association event held on the 52nd floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza was very special for me. I had the pleasure to be with Latinos who know about my work of the last ten years and some of those men and women were there with me from the very beginning. Reverend Carmen Hernandez knows that I was at her events and in her apartment to help her community. Chairman Jose Marquez has watched my commitment closely and was one of the first people to view my new website and comment on it. Jose Luis Rodriguez of HIT-N TV knows that I have been on three shows on his network and honored as a "Latino Destacado." Emilio Mahomar was with me when I launched my campaign in the Salvadoran community on Long Island. Assemblyman Felix Ortiz has seen me many times in the New York State Assembly and he was with me in the First Presidential Forum of President Antonio Elias Saca in El Salvador. Eduardo Giraldo was with me many years ago in Queens as I got Assemblyman Jose Peralta to support my efforts to help his community and the people of New York. There were others who were with me in an Hispanic parade in the Bronx and other events.

I had to opportunity to connect with the Nina Vaca, Chairwoman of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and she knows people in Dallas who were there with me at the beginning of my campaign, including Greta Gudmundsson of El Líder USA (see my article published in that newspaper). I was also published in El Exito there. When the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce learns that only one in ten Hispanics who needs a GED earns it and that is the major problem affecting the children and the economic situation of Hispanics, those chambers need only promote the GED effectively to cause the revolution that I have been talking about for ten years. Can you imagine every member of every family with a diploma and more education? That is why my business card says "No Person Left Behind." It also says "Ojalá Que Llueva Café Y Educación en el Campo" for the same reason.

Jose Marquez is about to launch an anti-obesity campaign in the Hispanic community. I sense that LISTA is ready to reach out to Latino youth across the United States and that means bringing GED, English language acquisition, greater Title One Parent Involvement in the schools, dropout out prevention, help related to cyber bullying, helping Latinos in prison and in reentry, the Dream Act and admission to college, and Latino workforce development, providing help for women, and technology into a national and international campaign to revolutionize things that are needed to close the educational and economic gap that afflicts the Latino community. I call upon old friends and new to join with me in helping the community. Every state needs a GED report to know just how the adults are doing. Before two influential GED reports were written in New York City, there was one man challenging the elected officials, the Regents appointed by the governor, the governors, and other people in power and his trademark "El Quijote del GED" is known from New York City to Los Angeles. In Yonkers, New York, he made Marí Carmen Aponte aware of the GED problem in Puerto Rico. He woke up the office of Senator Hillary Clinton, as well. Adolfo Carrión has a special place on my website for giving me the rotunda of the Bronx Supreme Court Building for my GED Roundtable there.

My work has been published in El Diario-La Prensa, Hoy, El Líder USA, Dos Mundos, La Voz de Colorado, La Nación, El Imparcial, El Tiempo Latino, NoticiaHispanoamericano, and several of my articles have been published on the website of the NAHP Foundation. I started publishing my work on ahorre.com and my readers are all over the world. So the internet has made "El Quijote del GED" well known and two youth(deported from Orlando with their parents) in Argentina passed the GED with my guidance and help.

Every state news a GED report to know how the workforce is doing. There are 40 million adults in the United States who have no diploma and the GED Hotline has important solutions.
