MARK WARNER GED ADVOCATE AND KEYNOTE SPEAKER

By Profesor Martin Danenberg “El Quijote del GED”

Here it is! Mark Warner, former Governor of Virginia and running for Senate in Virginia will be the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention. He just has to learn how to say we must double and triple the number of GED diplomas across our nation and every member of every family living in the United States needs a diploma or No Person Should Be Left Behind. The information below was taken from the Mark Warner For Senator 2008 website. Remember that Illinois, Barack Obama’s home state, is one of the worst states in the nation for GED.

We all thank Mark Warner for his effort as governor. Now we have to get Mark Warner to show Barack Obama and the American people that neighborhoods can improve dramatically overnight and that the workforce can be made stronger so that we fight this recession we are facing and compete globally because we are helping close to forty million Americans learn things they did not learn when the failed to complete high school.
Race to GED
More than 700,000 working-age Virginians do not have a General Educational Development (GED) certificate or high school diploma. Having one of the two can more than double a worker’s income.
The Governor established the Race to GED program, which allowed men and women to earn a GED certificate in much less time than in traditional programs. A major marketing effort in partnership with NASCAR and NASCAR racing teams urged workers to “accelerate” their earnings and created “Fast Track GED” programs – intensive, three-to-four month GED training programs.
Between the time Race to GED was created and the end of the Governor’s term, 35,000 Virginians obtained a GED certificate, an increase of 28 percent.
