By clicking you can go to my website and find "Services" to order the GED program in English or Spanish. See the Pay Pal there. Thank you for taking this important, powerful step in your life. I really hope that a job or higher education awaits you, even induction into the military. Your future is important!

Although this conference was filled with motivational speakers talking about health, mental health, and drug abuse, it was the agenda that included their new GED program that got my attention most. I was surprised, but I should not have been. Sharon Richards has shown her leadership in the community by obtaining 40 volunteer teachers and the conference speaker, Mary Hogarty, explained the commitment of this organization. The Kay Kidde Learning Center has started a campaign to provide people free GED books. So they have raised hundreds of dollars so books can be given to people for free. Every elected official who hands out money to organizations would clearly see that here is an organization to invest in because it is self-sustaining. Another thing that hit me was this organization is branching out all over the North and South Forks of Long Island. The leadership wants to provide GED testing sites to communities that may never have had a GED testing site. This can only make Suffolk County much stronger. Mary was upset that the state is not doing more to help men, women, and youth who need a GED. This organization has contacted the state education department to start a dialogue with the education department. I provided some new information that there may soon be much more for GED testing. We have Senator Malcolm A. Smith to thank for spreading the word about this very important matter.

The keynote speakers provided lots of excellent ideas to improve the health and economic conditions of those who attended. The speakers included Dr. Deborah Schafer, Merri P. Ciano, and Dr. Cynthia H. Ickes. We hope to quickly share their ideas with others.

There were five panelists who detailed very difficult periods of their lives. Angela Taylor became homeless and found community service. Gloria Moore had a difficult life thirty years ago, doing all kinds of negative things which she said she would never want to go back to (drawing laughter from the audience as she referred to my appeal for men and women to go back to the exercises that we used to do thirty years ago). Gloria told everyone she is in the GED program. Maggie Moore found that helping others was her way out of her own personal problems. Ashley Bell did not have a close relationship with her siblings because she was biracial. Karen Fellows fought cancer twice and knows she has not licked it yet. This was a wonderful panel.

BARACK OBAMA WANTS THE UNITED STATES TO ORGANIZE AT THE GRASS ROOTS AND HERE IS A GREAT MODEL FOR COMMUNITIES TO FOLLOW.

Mary Ann Tupper and Zona Story received the Mary Canicelli Memorial Award for helping people in the community and time was taken to make people aware that we have to help the homeless. The problem of homelessness is getting greater each month.
