President Leonel Fernandez of the Dominican Republic , a great friend of the GED, gave a long lesson about how he has collaborated with the United States to lower homicides and other forms of violence in the Dominican Republic. He has transformed the police force and communities to interact in positive ways that reflect the growth of freedom and democracy. His efforts have really been substantial, reaching a hundred communities where all agencies of government join together to solve the problem of high crime. Much of what has happened in the Dominican Republic is the result of drugs, transnational drug networks. His address at John Jay before Dominican born students receiving scholarships from the Dominican Republic, Dominicans born outside the Dominican Republic who attend the John Jay School of Criminal Justice, and Dominicans from the community, and others, including my Hip Hop friends.

President Fernandez and most of the people in the audience did not know there were new developments taking place that should affect the Dominican people in the next year for years to come. We thank Eduardo Selman and people working with the President for their cooperation in helping a powerful new initiative set up by Hip Hop and United Nations. All of us hope to influence and change things more in the Dominican Republic. Charles Fisher told President Leonel Fernandez about the series of concerts that are being supported by 16 countries in association with the United Nations, the Hip Hop Summit Youth Council, Ted Lucas of Slip 'N Slide Records, CARICOM, the Association of Caribbean States, UNAIDS, and Operation S.N.U.G. Now for all my readers around the world, S.N.U.G. is the anti-gun-anti-violence task force and I am the vice-chairman in Suffolk County. I got involved so that I could impact on youth all over the United States who are marginal in our society (gang members and youth in trouble). Hundreds or more gang members are arrested all over the United States and the world and most of them never get their education. I want them to pick up a diploma to use in favor of family, friends, community, nation, and society instead of picking up a gun that destroys the individual, the family, and community.
COMING SOON (HOPEFULLY) TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC:
An educational conference in Puerto Plata that I spoke to Governor Llibre about in her office this year.

The Spanish GED test for 10,000 Dominicans to earn a diploma in the DR after an initial training period and testing.

Dropout Prevention My Way to help youth stay in high school.

English language acquisition for all 100 Safe Neighborhoods and the rest of the DR.

The days of releasing gang members who have been arrested and not helping them with education are about to end. The same goes for people coming out of prisons.
