The Long Island Men's Crisis Center brought Joselo Lucero into its meeting on Thursday and there he was sitting next to the father of Sean Bell. These two men are fighting for civil and human rights and education for people. It was great to be with Joselo at the Annual Latino Youth Summit and to share ideas with him that I have wanted to tell him for months. The Latino community did not bring us together, but the wisdom of Sandy Hinden, President of the LIMCC prevailed. I told Joselo Lucero that we have to get the word out that our youth must be told to take the GED, cutting down on violence through education. Gang members need a graduation just like everyone else. We want them to void their initiation into the gang, get an education, and become productive members of society fast. I hope to be partnering soon with Joselo Lucero and do the things with him that I doing with William Bell (Sean Bell's father).
