Wake up everybody! Larry Love and (Harold Melvin) and the Blue Notes were waking up everyone. There was Larry Love appropriately announcing me and my GED efforts to hundreds of people in Brookville Park. There was Larry Love announcing his “Housecalls” program. There was Larry Love telling men and women that people who want construction jobs need a high school diploma or GED in New York State to get well paying union jobs.
There was William Bell and his family calling for an end to the violence in our communities.
I had been moving around the crowd and the basketball court, talking to people about GED. A Haitian man, sitting on a bench watching basketball, told me he got his GED in New York in his third year in this country and works in security, where the GED is required. A youth, watching the same game, told me that he was twenty and did not earn his GED in jail. He wants it now.
I walked around and talked to people about the GED and there was need among people and their friends. I spent lots of time talking with William Bell and his family. We are on the same road to change lives, to end violence, and put more of our youth into jobs and college. The road we are on leads to the White House and the Department of Justice of the United States. The road we are on calls for people to wake up everywhere!
