WHAT A SMALL WORLD HEARING ABOUT JAIME SACA
By Profesor Martin Danenberg “El Quijote del GED”
The manager of the new Espiguita Soccer Academy and I were talking and he told me the story of the brother of President Antonio Saca who was an illegal immigrant when he came to the United States. Jaime Saca, the president’s brother, sent money to El Salvador so his younger brother Tony could get his education. Ten seconds later, I showed the soccer league manager my photo with President Saca and my friend Jaime Saca on my website. I spent hours with people in the communities of Central Islip and Brentwood organizing what will surely be one of my most important educational events. I have extended an invitation to President Saca and other officials to attend my conference in September to speak about the GED. President Saca has spoken about the GED on television, including on the Don Francisco Show.
I spoke with the manager of Compare, owners and managers of bodegas owned by Salvadorans and Dominicans, a furniture store in Central Islip, a travel and calling center that sells other products, a beauty salon, a large taxi company where there are hundreds of drivers, a famous fast food restaurant that does not need mention, the Espiguita Bakery in Brentwood, four lawn care workers from El Salvador and Honduras, a taxi driver who works for a company in Ronkonkoma, a barber shop in Brentwood, and the Brentwood Recreational Center (Town of Islip), the offices of Pronto and Adelante, two of the community organizations that serve thousands of residents who need help and services, and the office of Assemblyman Phil Ramos. Almost everywhere the people expressed great sense of relief because they know how important the conference will be to the Hispanic communities in those towns. I gave the flyer to everyone I met and left a copy in the mailbox of the Iglesia de Dios where the pastor is Bishop Rafael Almonte.
