Solution To The Foreclosure Problem
Credit card Debt - How To Improve FICO Credit Score - The government has now launched over $1 trillion in spending programs designed to provide relief to cash-strapped, underwater homeowners and capital-constrained banks. Hopefully, these efforts will succeed in priming the economy for renewed growth after a spell. One thing, however, is certain: The spending plans themselves will not directly create economic value.
Most homeowners have a "free asset" that can be harnessed in return for mortgage relief at this critical time. That asset is the sunshine hitting their rooftops every day. The strategy I propose would redirect a portion of the funds earmarked for loan modifications under the Making Home Affordable Plan (MHAP) and use them instead to fund the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on the roofs of a segment of distressed homeowners.
Why is this strategy a better use of the funds? Because instead of just preventing foreclosures by modifying existing mortgage loans with significant infusions of government and lender capital, we can unlock the power of the sun to add value to these homes and to the economy. In so doing, we achieve the same purpose with a more positive outcome for all.
