PRNewswire/ To help businesses understand the Hispanic market, Chain Store Guide® (CSG) recently introduced the Top 50 Hispanics Markets Report: Your Retail & Foodservice Guide to Hispanic Marketing.

As the fastest-growing minority group in the U.S., the Hispanic market is capturing the attention of marketers, advertisers and companies representing all sectors of the business community. Hispanic buying power has reached $700 billion, making it larger than Canada's gross domestic product and representing 9.4% of America's total buying power.

CSG's report establishes the link between the market demographics of the Top 50 Hispanic Markets and retailers serving those markets. The report includes analysis on U.S. immigration patterns, race/ethnicity growth, shopping overview and a list of Hispanic associations.

Findings of the report include:

* Among retailers, Wal-Mart and Walgreens are the leaders in serving the Hispanic community. Wal-Mart's average market share is 37.3% among discount stores while Walgreens' average is 40.3% on the drug side.

* Grocery market share is not quite so cut and dried. The H.E.B. Grocery Company is number one in the eight markets in which it appears with 55% average market share. Publix, Safeway, Kroger and Albertson's also are highlighted as top Hispanic grocery retailers in the report.

There are good reasons for the success of these retailers within the Hispanic community. Wal-Mart offers Spanish-language publications and MoneyGram money transfers so customers can send funds to Mexico. Walgreens has a Spanish-language website and offers prescriptions with labels and instructions in Spanish.

H.E.B. adjusts product offerings in particular stores to cater to Hispanic-dominated areas. Publix recently debuted two Publix Sabor formats in Florida -- specifically targeting the Hispanic consumer. Safeway carries more than 1,000 Hispanic products, and Albertsons has introduced its Super Saver format in areas of high Hispanic households.

CSG's 820-page report contains three sections: The front-end covers general demographic and country of origin information, buying/shopping patterns, and media usage; Market Profiles list market demographics including income, expenditures and employment, retailer information, and media contacts; and Company Profiles lists contact information for 2,000 retailers and foodservice operators doing business within the profiled markets.

The price for the Top 50 Hispanic Markets Report: Your Retail & Foodservice Guide to Hispanic Marketing is $675. To order, call 800-252-9769 or visit http://www.csgis.com .
