The bubble period of 2000 to 2006 was extremely friendly to risky home buyers. This was when lenders were offering 100% financing and turning a blind eye risky borrower.
Even if the real estate bubble had not been followed by the 2008-2009 financial crisis, the foreclosure rate among the risky buyers would have been horrendous. Any bump in the road is enough to throw home-owning in the ditch.
