April 21, 2006 at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y. saw the poster boy of Reggaeton, Daddy Yankee tear it up last night putting to rest any theories that this genre of Music has lost any of its steam. Also appearing was the superstar Bachata group Aventura, the Queen of Reggaeton, Ivy Queen, along with The Pitbulls Alexis and Fido and K.M.W.
The surprise of the evening was Nina Sky making an unannounced appearance to join N.O.R.E for “Oye Mi Canto.”

The event was brought to Long island by the radio station LaKalle 105.9 and 92.7. Univisions radio station is known as “New York’s official radio station.” The first stars to appear were the Pitbulls. Alexis and Fido along with their team of dancers pounded out the pavement with pulsating intensity they tore through their hits with electric savagery. The non-stop numbers warmed up the predominantly young crowd early and set the tone for the night’s festivities.
The DJ’s always get the parties started and they were in force last night. DJ Kazzanova was present along with DJ Kito, DJ Spin One, DJ Neco, Lisa, and L-Boogs who pranced and danced and showed off enough to keep the crowd in it until the heavy hitters arrived.
The roof was blown when Ivy Queen arrived with a large Puerto Rican flag held open and proud behind her. The undisputed top woman Reggaeton act came out in all black with Red boots trimmed in gold as she looked and belted out her songs and even made sure to remind everyone that she was no J-Lo but talent personified.
No time to catch ones breath because N.O.R.E came out next and with him came surprise participants Nina Sky, the twin sisters from Queens, NY, added their heavenly vocals to “Oye mi Canto” making the performance more complete.

N.O.R.E. commented on the impact that he has had on Reggaeton in the U.S. and on his new album coming out. “ I love the fact that I’m half-Puerto Rican and half-black, I grew up both ways, my father was Puerto Riceno and my mother is black. I was doing Hip-Hop for almost a year but in the process I discovered this music. I had a house in Puerto Rico, but I came up here to the United States. This was the plan. I said how can I help this and there was no other way to help it but to do it yourself.”
“I take the basics of what they do (Reggaeton in Puerto Rico) but do it my way, incorporating English and a New York sound. I feel it gives me an advantage. It’s doing the same thing but something different.”
“The album is coming out July 18 called N.O.R.E. Y La Familia. It’s got Daddy Yankee and Don Omar, Wisin and Yandel, Hector El Father, Ivy Queen. I think it will be the “Chronic” of Espanol.”
The highlight of the evening was the appearance of Adventura who invited a young boy to stage to sing the Don Omar part of the song “Ella Y Yo”. He stole the hearts of the audience and performed a miniature parody of Don Omar. It was priceless moment to witness. There was also a prize of a $200 dollars and some bling to go along with some fame.
The main reason everyone was there though was “El Cangri” himself, Daddy Yankee.
The special effects included fire bursting upwards from several spots on stage to explosions and sheets of sparks dropping down on occasion. Daddy Yankee showed off a powerful stage presence as he did several of his hits. As he did his hit single “Rompe” the stage was inundated with confetti.
Daddy showed off his freestyle skills in an extended number. The face of Reggaeton performed with a quality that befit his talents and restored in the minds of New Yorkers that he is the number One attraction concerning this genre. In all it was a night of high level performances from high level talent that was eaten up by the masses that congregated at the Coliseum this evening.
