Madrid is possibly
largest city in Spain, and where the king and queen live. First
timers to Madrid get amazed as to the number of skyscrapers in
Madrid. Madrid offers the best Spanish art the country's
best cuisine. Madrid has been the capital of Spain since the
155o's. In fact, Madrid is one of the largest cities in Europe,
with over 5.1 million in population.
Madrid is located in the heart of the Meseta plateau where the
peaks of the Central Mountain range converge with the high barren
plains and the large fields in the valley of Tajo. The climate of
Madrid is of continental Mediterranean. The winters are cold and
the summers hot The average temperature for spring and fall
tend to be between 13 to 15șC.
Barcelona Spain is
influenced by nearby France, whose border is less than a hundred
miles away, Barcelona is widely acknowledged to be the
intellectual capital of Spain, as liberal as Madrid is
conservative, and with a liberal Catholic clergy whose positions
are often dramatically opposed to those of right-wing bishops
elsewhere. Its residents are avid music lovers and
conversationalists, passionate theatergoers, delirious about the
concerts and recitals in their stunning Palau (Palace) de la
Musica (no other theater on earth is designed with such gaudy
verve), and loudly patriotic--but only on behalf of Catalonia, not
Spain.
Repeatedly in conversations, they will depict the Catalan culture
as broadly cosmopolitan and sophisticated, and compare it
scornfully with the provincialism of, say, an Andalucia or other
parts of Spain. More than 70% of all the books read in Spain are
published in Barcelona.
Spanish shoes are famous around the world, models of which can be
found in Madrid. The most classic of these are found in the
Salamanca, by Velazquez or Serrano streets, the most vanguard
designs are located in the Almirante or Augusto Figueroa districts
in the city centre.
